PAEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY

MMC GH is providing following services in Paediatric cardiology:

ECHO Cardiography:

  1. Trans-thoracic ECHO (TTE) is performed for congenital heart diseases in neonates (with fully equipped NICU and trained staff). Children and grown up adults with acquired structural heart diseases in outpatient department. 100 to 150 ECHOs / month.
  2. Trans-Esophageal ECHO (TEE) in outpatient department in controlled environment with vital monitoring and anesthetist available at hand for those desiring to undergo TEE in sedation. Numbers vary, on average 10 to 15 per month.
  3. Fetal ECHO is carried out in outpatient department both for inpatient and referral cases. Average10 to 15.
  4. Per-operative and immediate post operative in cardiac surgery OT and specialized cardiac ITC respectively. We are performing 40 to 50 congenital cardiac surgeries per month. Post op ECHO is a mandatory protocol of our hospital.

Cardiac catheterization:

On an average we perform around 25 diagnostic cardiac caths for following spectrum of congenital heart diseases.

  1. Left to right shunting lesion like VSD, PDA and ASD with or without balloon occlusion with pulmonary hypertension to check for pulmonary vaso-reactivity testing.
  2. Tetrology of Fallot with MAPCA coiling.
  3. For functionally univentricular heart diseases prior to BDG and Fonton.

Interventions: Cardiac cath and interventions are performed in cath lab fully equipped, dedicated trained staff, consultant anesthetist, cardiac surgeon on call and adjoining cardiac care unit. Number of interventions is variable.

  1. Pulmonary balloon valvuloplasty.
  2. Aortic balloon valvuloplasty.
  3. PDA device occlusion.
  4. ASD Device occlusion.
  5. Atrial Septostomy.
  6. Pericadial tap.
